New publication by Hydro Nation Scholar, Robert Šakić Troglić: Taking Stock of Community-Based Flood Risk Management in Malawi: Different Stakeholders, Different Perspectives
Hydro Nation Scholar, Robert Šakić Troglić has just had a paper published in the Environmental Hazards journal, entitled: Taking Stock of Community–Based Flood Risk Management in Malawai: Different Stakeholders, Different Perspectives. This paper investigates the realities and challenges of CB-FRM as seen through a lens of different stakeholders. This publication is available to view on-line.

New publication by Hydro Nation Scholar, Maricela Blair: Micro- and Nanoplastic Pollution of Freshwater and Wastewater Treatment Systems
Hydro Nation Scholar, Maricela Blair has just had a paper published in the Analytical Student Review, entitled: Micro- and Nanoplastic Pollution of Freshwater and Waste Water Treatment Systems. This paper with co-authorship from various academic institutions outlines how micro- and nanoplastic fragments originating from primary or secondary sources are contaminants of emerging concern. This publication is available for free download.

New publication by Hydro Nation Scholar, Bas Buddendorf: Metrics to Assess How Longitudinal Channel Network Connectivity and In-Stream Atlantic Salmon Habitats Are Impacted by Hydropower Regulation
Hydro Nation Scholar, Bas Buddendorf has just had a paper published in the Hydrological Processes journal, entitled: Metrics to Assess How Longitudinal Channel Network Connectivity and In-Stream Atlantic Salmon Habitats Are Impacted by Hydropower Regulation. This paper with co-authorship form various academic institutions which investigates the use of connectivity metrics and weightings to assess the impact or river barriers (impoundments) associated with hydropower regulation on natural longitudinal channel connectivity for Atlantic Salmon. This publication is available for free download.

New publication by Hydro Nation Scholar, Robert Šakić Trogrlić: Science and Technology Networks: A Helping Hand to Boost Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030?
Hydro Nation Scholar, Robert Šakić Trogrlić has just had a paper published in the International Journal of Disaster Risk Science, entitled: "Science and Technology Networks: A Helping Hand to Boost Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030?. This paper with co-authorship from various academic institutions underlines the importance of Science and Technology (S&T) and S&T networks for effective disaster risk reduction. The publication is available for free download.

New publication by Hydro Nation Scholar, Christopher Schulz: 'Applying a 'Value Landscapes Approach' to Conflicts in Water Governance: The Case of the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway'
Hydro Nation scholar Christopher Schulz just published a paper in Ecological Economics, entitled: "Applying a 'Value Landscapes Approach' to Conflicts in Water Governance: The Case of the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway". This paper, with co-authorship of his supervisory team of Julia Martin-Ortega, Antonio Ioris, and Klaus Glenk, is an application of Christopher's own theoretical framework on the role of values in water governance, that was published earlier this year in the same journal. Based on interviews conducted with members of the water sector in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, the paper explains how the decades-old conflict around the construction of a waterway through the Brazilian Pantanal wetland can be interpreted as a clash of different values. The publication is available for download for free until 14th May 2017.

Hydro Nation Scholar, Bas Buddenborf's EGU General Assembly 2016 conference report published New publication by Hydro Nation Scholar, Christopher Schulz: 'The Value Base of Water Governance: A Multi-Disciplinary Perspective'
Hydro Nation Scholar, Christopher Schulz, together with his supervisory team, recently published his first article in Ecological Economics entitled "The Value Base of Water Governance: A Multi-Disciplinary Perspective". This conceptual paper looks at different theoretical approaches towards environmental values, integrates them into a new conceptual framework and explains how this framework can be applied for empirical research on values and water governance. It also serves as a theoretical base for Christopher's own PhD research. The publication is available for download

Hydro Nation Scholar, Yuan Li wins poster competition at the RSC Water Framework Directive Priority Substances conference
Congratulations to Yuan Li for winning the poster competition at November's Royal Society of Chemistry's (RSC) 'Water Framework Directive Priority Substances – where should we control them?' conference, with her contribution 'Optimising the removal of steroid hormones and Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) from aqueous media using low cost biosorbents.' This conference was the third in a series and aimed to bring together leading EU and UK experts in the field of Priority Substances listed in Annex X of the Water Framework Directive. The event discussed issues associated with Priority Substance compliance, where they come from, and where best to control them. An article related to Yuan Li's work will appear in an RSC journal and RSC newsletter.

Hydro Nation Scholar Scholar, Bas Buddendorf to present at the AGU Fall meeting, San Francisco 12th-16th December 2016
Hydro Nation Scholar, Bas Buddendorf will be attending the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall meeting in San Francisco in December. Bas will be giving a talk titled 'Spatio-Temporal Effects Of River Regulation On Habitat Suitability For Juvenile Atlantic Salmon: Implications For Ecosystem Functioning.' His study focussed on the River Lyon, a tributary of the Tay, Scotland's largest river. Bas investigated the effects of different types of river regulation (hydropeaking, compensation flow and near-natural) on the hydraulic characteristics of downstream river reaches and inferred the consequences for juvenile salmon using hydraulic habitat suitability models. This work improves understanding of the effects of regulation on biophysical processes and may be useful in managing trade-offs between management, restoration, and societal benefits.

HABITAT III -the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development
Hydro Nation Scholar, Robert Sakic Trogrlic attended HABITAT III - the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, where UN member state will establish global commitment to sustainable urbanisation through a global agreement – the New Urban Agenda.
Robert was invited by the HABITAT III Secretariat to be a speaker for the Children and Youth Roundtable, representing Water Youth Network. He was also in charge of organising and facilitating a session entitled The role of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation for building urban resilience, organised jointly by Water Youth Netwrok, United Nations Major Group for Chilren and Youth and TERI- The Energy and Resources Institute. This is part of Science, Technology and Innovation Stream of the Children and Youth Forum, which was held on October 15th.
Robert also had a role in supporting (along with Water Youth Network) the HABITAT III youth representative of the Netherlands and Dutch Government in organising a youth competition called Youth for Sustainable Urban Deltas, the winner of which will get a chance to present at COP22 in November 2016.
